Fotografiska Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« is opening its Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« branch with an exhibition of works by Juliana Huxtable. "Ussyphilia" is the US American artist's largest solo exhibition in Europe to date.
Juliana Huxtable was born in Bryan-College Station, Texas, USA in 1987. She is internationally known for her multidisciplinary work exploring contemporary discourses on gender, ethnicity, identity, queerness and sexuality. The Fotografiska exhibition "Ussyphilia" will feature a video installation, new site-specific works as well as works from her "Akimbo Spittle" series, which will be on view for the first time.
Based on her essayistic approach to visual representation, Huxtable develops her narratives through the performative painting of her body and posing in front of the camera. The self-portraits become poetry with references, a photograph that is painted, printed and then re-constructed. Playing with the different levels of representations and her multidimensional, cross-species persona, she takes a novel look at our understanding of images and their production.
Fotografiska is a contemporary museum of photography, art and culture with several branches around the world. Fotografiska Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« will open after a four-year development period on September 14, 2023, as part of the Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« Art Week.
