Melt metallurgy for ferrous foundries
Thanks to the long experience we built along with the foundries, we offer our expertise together with high-quality products. The cooperation with our partners gives us the chance to find the most suitable solutions in order to improve the castings in every foundry.
The excellent quality of the Consulting Services offered by our experts permits to analyze metallurgical defects and to prevent them by means of the optimization of melting processes and of the iron treatment.
Nodularisers
The nodulization process permits the formation of nodular or compacted graphite.
The iron becomes ductile, increasing its mechanical properties such as strength and elongation.
This process takes place by adding to the molten iron nodularisers based on ferrosilicon, which contain magnesium and rare earths.
Nodularisers are available in different chemical compositions and grain size in order to be suitable for all treatment processes: sandwich, tundish, in-mould or others.
Inoculants
The inoculation process of the iron is the fundamental step to obtain the highest quality performances of every iron type, both grey and nodular cast iron. An excellent inoculation process needs the right inoculant; indeed every cast iron has its specific inoculant. Inoculants are alloys based on ferrosilicon, which contains a carefully balanced amount of active elements. These elements are studied to control the microstructure and the mechanical properties of cast iron.
A proper inoculation process allows to:
- Improve the homogeneity of the microstructure
- Avoid the formation of carbides
- Refine the structure (higher number of eutectic cells, smaller grain size)
- Reduce the tendency of micro-shrinkages
Nowadays, we have a wide range of inoculants, that cover every type of application at most critical and extreme conditions. Our experts are ready to support the foundry and find together the best performing inoculants or the most suitable ones for the solution of specific defects (for example: porosity caused by nitrogen, chunky graphite etc.).
The use of cored-wire in the iron and steel industry has become widely common and applied both in steel plants and in foundry. In this process, the ferroalloy powder falls on a steel sheet which is closed in a wire shape that is then wrapped up obtaining a coil. The steel sheet protects the ferroalloy from the oxidation and the balanced fineness guarantees a better dispersion of melted metal.
The cored-wire treatment process, or injection process requires the use of injection/feeding machines that are specifically conceived in order to maximize the efficiency of the treatment.
Thanks to the long-standing partnership with , we are able to offer a wide range of ferroalloys, nodularisers, inoculants for foundries and steel plants in the shape of cored-wire.
