Franziska Giffey was born in Frankfurt/Oder in 1978.
After completing her studies as a Qualified Public Administration Specialist, she gained working experience in the offices of the mayors of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«-Treptow-Köpenick and London-Lewisham as well as the Representation of the State of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« at the European Union in Brussels and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. She was the European Commissioner of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«-Neukölln from 2002 to 2010.
From September 1, 2010 to April 15, 2015, Giffey was City Councilwoman for Education, School, Culture and Sports of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«-Neukölln. She was elected Mayor of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«-Neukölln on April 15, 2015. As district mayor, Giffey was also head of the Department of Finance and Economy.
On March 14, 2018, Giffey was appointed as Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in the Cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel. She resigned on May 19, 2021.
From December 21, 2021 to April 27, 2023, Franziska Giffey was the Governing Mayor of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«. Since 2021, Giffey is a Member of the Å·ÃÀÇéÉ« House of Representatives and the Bundesrat.
Since April 27, 2023, Franziska Giffey is Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and Mayor of Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«.
