Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«'s Kunstgewerbesmuseum features a splendid collection of decorative arts and home furnishing exhibits ranging from the Middle Ages to the modern day.

Kunstgewerbemuseum

The Kunstgewerbemuseum is the oldest of its kind in Germany and dates back to 1867. The "Deutsches Gewerbe-Museum zu Å·ÃÀÇéÉ«" was founded at that time to promote the arts and crafts. As early as the 1870s, the museum sharpened its profile as an outstanding collection. Today, the museum is represented at two locations: the Kulturforum at Potsdamer Platz and Köpenick Palace. Visitors are given a comprehensive insight into arts and crafts, fashion and design from the early Middle Ages to the present day.

Highlights: Gold treasures and fashion in the Kunstgewerbemuseum

The domed reliquary from the Guelph Treasure (Cologne, end of the 12th century) and the elephant-shaped casting vessel (Christoph Jamnitzer, Nuremberg, around 1600) are particularly popular with visitors to the Kunstgewerbemuseum. Another highlight is the Bursen reliquary from the Dionysius monastery in Enger/Herford. Furniture, home accessories and tableware by the likes of Mies van der Rohe, Emile Gallé and Wilhelm Wagenfeld illustrate the developments in Art Nouveau and Art Deco. In the fashion gallery, visitors can admire costumes and accessories from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Over 260 exhibits take you through around 150 years of fashion history.
